Why did EA remove Bookworm? ›

Bookworm Adventures was by far the greatest game series ever created. It was fun, educational, had a fantastic storyboard, and graphics that rival Crysis 4. Unfortunately, Popcap and EA cancelled the series back in 2016 and claimed it was not profitable. Whatever the case was in 2016, times have changed.

For unclear reasons, Electronic Arts, the rights holder which acquired PopCap Games in 2011, removed Bookworm Adventures from both Steam and EA's Origin in 2016, making the game impossible to purchase legally via digital download, a situation that has persisted since.

Is Bookworm still available? This game, together with its sequels, has been removed from most sale platforms. As a result, digital copies are no longer available, although second-hand copies of discs or Nintendo DS cartridges are still available on the secondary market.

Description. In Bookworm HD, you create words to feed Lex the Bookworm. Link adjacent letter tiles to form words that are three letters or longer. Tiles can be linked horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

Originally, 'bookworm' was an entirely negative term: 'worm' was an Elizabethan insult that meant "wretch," and to be called a 'bookworm' was an insult. The term still carries a tinge of disapproval—who wants to be called a worm? —but is widely considered to be more positive than it once was.

“We were told by the community that there are toxic behaviours in the game and we wanted to make sure we removed them,” Rivera told reporters. “So we removed some of the celebrations that people thought were not the best idea to have in the game.” Celebrations can be skipped but it takes both players to do so.

A third season aired from April to June 2022.

Lex is an anthropomorphic green worm, has gold glasses and a red bowtie.

Taboo is a word, guessing, and party game published by Parker Brothers in 1989 (subsequently purchased by Hasbro). The objective of the game is for a player to have their partners guess the word on the player's card without using the word itself or five additional words listed on the card.

No further explanation has been given on why the games were removed although their delisting from EA's own Origin and POGO services implies that an expired license of some sort is the cause.

It all comes down to making money by consumer sales! Something the sale numbers prove was weak on the NFS Ghost Titles! leaves no surprise as to why they failed & EA had to shut it all down on Ghost Studios. to Criterion, located in Guildford, England.
